Being a mother on a healing journey can feel overwhelming at times. Everywhere we turn, there’s information on what we should be doing—how much time we need to meditate, the best ways to move our bodies, how to meal prep, journal, breathe, and optimise every single moment of our day. Social media is filled with wellness advice, but let’s be honest—most of it comes from people who don’t have little ones needing them 24/7. Their routines are built around freedom, quiet and predictability—three things that rarely exist in motherhood!

But here’s the thing: Motherhood is healing in itself. The love, patience, and energy we pour into our children is already an act of deep care and transformation. We give away our time, our sleep, our energy—all in the name of love. That should never be underestimated.

Healing in a Way That Works for You

It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing our healing journey to others, especially when we see wellness influencers who seem to have it all figured out. But their reality is not ours, and their advice doesn’t always fit into the world of a mother.

As a mumma who often finds herself solo parenting, I’ve had to constantly remind myself to move at my own pace—to let go of perfection and focus on what actually works for me and my child. Some days, my self-care looks like a full morning routine with journalling, movement and nourishing food. Other days, it’s just five minutes of deep breathing in the bathroom while my little one calls for me from the other side of the door. And both are okay!!

Motherhood is unpredictable. One day, you may have time to meal prep, go for a walk, or fit in a workout. The next, you might be in full survival mode, just getting through the day. That’s why flexibility and self-compassion are key.

Simple Ways to Fill Your Cup as a Mum

Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate—it just has to be intentional. Here are some easy ways to nurture yourself amidst the chaos of motherhood:

  • Start your day with five deep breaths. Even if it’s in the bathroom while your little one waits outside. Your breath is your anchor.

  • Move your body in a way that fits your life. A quick walk with the pram, stretching while the kids play, or a 10-minute YouTube workout—all movement is valid.

  • Prepare simple, nourishing meals. If meal prepping helps you feel more organised, do it. If not, focus on easy, wholesome meals that fuel your body.

  • Embrace nature. Whether it’s a walk, sitting in the sun, or just opening a window—nature has a way of resetting our energy.

  • Allow yourself to rest. Some days, a movie or TV day with the kids is the self-care you need. Rest is just as important as action.

Emotional Self-Care & Honest Conversations

Burnout is real, and as mothers, we often push through it without realising how much we’re holding. One of the most powerful things I’ve learned is to talk openly with my child about emotions.

When I feel like I’m reaching my limit, I’ll use the kettle analogy—explaining that, just like a kettle boils over, our emotions can do the same. Our children are incredibly intuitive, and showing them that we have feelings too helps them build emotional awareness and empathy.

Releasing the Pressure & Embracing Imperfection

The biggest mistake I’ve made in motherhood is being too hard on myself—setting unrealistic expectations and then feeling guilty when I don’t meet them.

But here’s the truth:

  • You are already doing enough.

  • Your love is enough.

  • Your presence is enough.

Healing is a lifelong journey, and motherhood is a part of that transformation. Instead of focusing on what you’re not doing, shift your mindset to recognise all that you are doing. The late nights, the cuddles, the endless patience—it all counts.

So next time you start doubting yourself, take a breath, put your hand on your heart, and remind yourself that you are doing an incredible job. Give yourself the grace, love and care that you so freely give to others.

You’ve got this, mumma <3
